Cycling to Uni

Getting to ANU by Bicycle

Why cycle?

After walking, cycling is by far the cheapest, healthiest and most environmentally-friendly way to get to ANU. It is also great fun!

The ease of bicycle ‘parking’ and the many cycle paths around Canberra make cycling faster and more convenient over short distances than either buses or cars.

Rides of 10km take only 30–40 minutes of slow pedaling so, even if you are not a keen athlete, cycling is a great option if you live anywhere in the inner north (Kaleen is approximately 10km from the ANU).

What you need to know

Maps

Canberra is the perfect city for cycling and has many practical and scenic bicycle paths and cycle lanes. The Pedal Power web site offers a comprehensive list of suggested commuter cycle routes.

A cycling and walking map of Canberra and Queanbeyan is available through Pedal Power, from cycle shops throughout Canberra, and ACT government shopfronts. The map shows on-road cycle lanes as well as shared paths for cyclists and pedestrians. Pedal Power sell the map for $6 through their office, or online for $7.70 including postage.

The Canberra Street Directory is also useful, however it doesn't show all cycle routes or on-road cycle lanes.

Bus and biking

If you want to regularly cycle at either end of a bus trip, secure bicycle lockers are available at low rental at bus interchanges.
