Walking to ANU
ANU is a beautiful place to walk around, and walking is the most popular way of traveling around the campus.
If you catch a bus to Civic Interchange it's a 10 minute walk to the University unless you catch the UniSafe bus at night or transfer to an ACTION bus coming to campus. If you live close to ANU, walking is also a commuting option.
Possible routes
See maps of Canberra suburbs or maps in the front of the Yellow Pages to help plan your route.
From Civic and the City Interchange: traveling down Alinga Street or London Circuit and crossing over to join University Avenue is the most direct and well-lit route.
From Turner/O’Connor: The main north-east edge (Barry Drive side) pedestrian routes onto campus are between Marcus Clarke Street and Kingsley Street, and east of McCaughey Street. The area along Willows Oval is slightly less accessible.
From the lake: Several bicycle paths enter the campus from the lake side.

Safety and security
When traveling around campus at night, be sure to use the lighted pathways.
The UniSafe Bus operates during semesters between 5.15pm and 11.03pm, and travels across campus, through Turner, to Fenner Hall and then Civic every 40 minutes.
UNISAFEGAURD Patrols can accompany you anywhere around campus, such as to bus stops, car parks and between buildings and residences. Just call (612) 52249 to request an escort and for all other security matters.
Showers, change rooms and lockers
These are available at the ANU Sport and Recreation Association. Yearly lockers are available for $60, and are reallocated every March — ask at reception. Chifley Library also has free lockers for postgraduate and honours students, and in April any remaining lockers are available for undergraduate students — just ask at the information desk. Most buildings also have at least one shower and change room in them, so ask your local administrators if there are facilities you can use.
